Far away from the busy coastal resorts lies Morgan Kunda, our newest lodge and base for exploring one of the most remarkable birding regions in The Gambia. Here you wake up to the sound of birds, look out over the African landscape and can quickly reach wetlands, savannah, rice fields and open plains offering a completely different birding experience from southern Gambia. Jarjari is The Gambia as very few visitors get to experience it.
A paradise for birdwatchers and photographers
The lodge is located in the North Bank Region, close to the extensive Bao Bolong wetlands. From Jarjari we can visit birding areas that would otherwise require long day trips from the coast.

Here we search for species including Abyssinian Ground Hornbill, Abyssinian Roller, bustards, Martial Eagle, sunbirds, hornbills and many others. The reputation of this location speaks for itself: BBC and National Geographic selected Morgan Kunda as a filming location for the Abyssinian Ground Hornbill.
Small-scale, peaceful and surrounded by nature
Belgambia Lodge Jarjari has 10 rooms, a covered dining area and an elevated birdwatching platform. There are standard rooms with fans and rooms with air conditioning, all with private bathrooms and terraces.
No mass tourism. No busy resort.
Just peace, nature, authentic village life and your binoculars within reach from the moment you wake up.
The Gambia Experience has also included the lodge for many years in its specialised birdwatching programme and describes Jarjari as an ideal base from which to explore the North Bank.

A lodge with a story
Belgambia Lodge Jarjari, formerly Morgan Kunda Lodge, grew out of the social work of the Morgan Clark Foundation
and remains closely connected to that special history and mission.
Today, we are building the next chapter together. Senegambia Birding and the Belgambia Foundation Project will now work more closely with Phil Morgan and the Morgan Clark Foundation. Not to replace what already exists, but to strengthen existing projects, local employment and community initiatives.
By combining our experience in tourism, birding and local development with the Morgan Clark Foundation’s many years of social commitment, we can achieve more together. More guests mean more opportunities for the lodge, greater security for staff and more possibilities to further develop local projects in education, healthcare, support and community development.
Our projects each keep their own identity, but together we are stronger. With respect for the past, confidence in the local community
and a shared vision, we are working together to build a sustainable and strong future for Jarjari and The Gambia.
