This vast biosphere reserve, recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is Senegal’s most important national park and covers over 9,000 km².

The park is traversed by the Gambia River and its tributaries, the Niokolokoba and the Koulountou, which nourish the land and sustain an incredible biodiversity. It is home to an estimated 80 mammal species and over 350 bird species, making it a paradise for nature lovers and photographers alike.

DAY-BY-DAY ITINERARY – TOUR THROUGH GAMBIA & NIOKOLO-KOBA, SENEGAL

This unique journey takes you from the lush mangroves of the Gambian coast to the vast savanna landscapes of the interior, with the impressive Niokolo-Koba National Park in Senegal as a true highlight. All lodges and camps in the itinerary have been carefully selected and are located close to prime photo locations, so you won’t lose precious time on long transfers and can fully enjoy the nature, birds, and magical light. BANJUL - MANDINARI

Arrival at Banjul Airport, where you’ll be welcomed by our team. After a short 12 km transfer, you’ll arrive at Belgambia Lodge, beautifully located on the edge of the Tanbi Wetlands. Your journey has officially begun!

TENDABA / TENDABA CAMP

Today is dedicated to birdwatching and photography in the bird-rich Kwinella woodlands. You’ll also spend time in the photo hide at Tendaba — an ideal spot for quiet observation. Overnight stay at Tendaba in a room with ac.

WASSADOU

Today you’ll cross the border into Senegal and travel approximately 140 km south. In the afternoon, you’ll arrive at Campement de Wassadou, beautifully located by the river and surrounded by nature. Overnight stay in a peaceful and atmospheric setting.

SENEGAL - GAMBIA / RIVER SIDE LODGE

Today you’ll enjoy a peaceful morning in the surroundings of Campement de Wassadou. Afterwards, you’ll travel approximately 190 km back towards Gambia, arriving in Bansang. Overnight stay at River Side Lodge, quietly located along the river.

BINTANG BOLONG

Today you’ll travel 210 km to Kassagne, with birding stops in the wetland areas along the way. Overnight stay at Bintang Bolong Lodge, beautifully located by the water, in a peaceful and natural setting.

MANDINARI / BELGAMBIA LODGE

After breakfast, you’ll go birdwatching or photographing in the Tanbi Wetlands and the Mandinari rice fields. You'll also spend time in the SGB photo hide on the property. Overnight stay at Belgambia Lodge, surrounded by peace and nature.

KIANG / KUDANG / KAKUBA GARDEN

In the morning, enjoy a boat trip through the bird-rich Kiang West National Park. Afterwards, continue your journey inland towards Kudang. Overnight stay at Kakuba Garden, a simple yet charming lodge set in a quiet, natural environment.

WASSADOU

Today you’ll explore the area around the lodge — a stunning riverside habitat with chances to spot Northern Carmine Bee-eaters, hippos, and more. In the afternoon, enjoy a scenic boat trip. Overnight stay at Campement de Wassadou.

BANSANG/ KUNTAUR / KAIROH GARDEN

Today you’ll visit the well-known Bansang Quarry, a hotspot for bee-eaters and other species. Afterwards, you’ll drive 45 km to Kuntaur and also visit the colourful Wassu Quarry. Overnight stay at Kairoh Garden.

FARASUTO / BELGAMBIA LODGE

Today you’ll visit the bird-rich Farasuto Forest and photograph from the well-known Mr. Bah hide — an ideal spot for quiet observation. In the afternoon, you’ll return to Mandinari. Overnight stay at Belgambia

KOTU / FAJARA / BELGAMBIA LODGE

Today you’ll visit Kotu Bridge and take a walk along the Fajara Nature Trail. Afterwards, enjoy a relaxing boat trip on the Kotu Stream, passing through bird-rich mangroves. In the evening, return for an overnight stay at Belgambia Lodge.​

BASSE SANTA SU

Today you’ll explore the area around Georgetown and the well-known Bansang Quarry, a hotspot for various bird species. Afterwards, continue your journey eastward to Basse Santa Su, near the border with Senegal. Overnight stay in Basse.

WASSADOU

Today is all about nature and adventure. You’ll explore Niokolo-Koba National Park on a safari and take a boat trip on the river near Campement de Wassadou — a day full of opportunities to spot big game and rare bird species.

KUNTAUR / KAIROH GARDEN

Today you’ll explore the bird-rich rice fields of Kuntaur and pay another visit to the impressive Wassu Quarry, known for its Red-throated Bee-eaters. Overnight stay at Kairoh Garden, a peaceful lodge at the river Gambia.

MANDINARI - BANJUL

Today you’ll enjoy a final peaceful morning in the Mandinari region. Afterwards, you’ll be transferred to Banjul Airport. This marks the end of an unforgettable journey filled with nature, birds, and lasting memories.
